About Devoy’s Organic Farm
Devoy’s organic fruit and vegetable farm is
near Rosscarbery in West Cork, Ireland. We
grow and sell a wide variety of organic fruit
and vegetables. We also produce some of the
only certified Organic eggs in the region.
We supply two Supermarkets, local
restaurants, hotels and whole food shops. We
also sell direct at local farmers’ markets and
through a vegetable box scheme. We deliver
to Cork weekly.
Our range of Organic Produce
We grow a wide variety of crops throughout the season including spinach, mange tout, kale, chard, onions, apples, salad leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, beans, squash, potatoes, beetroot and even blueberries when in season.
Our salads mixes include intriguing varieties of tasty leaves and textures. As much of our produce as possible is harvested on the day of sale to optimise both freshness and nutritional content.
The difference between free range and organic eggs?.
The differences are more significant than people imagine. Organic eggs are superior in taste due to the high quality feed and the complete production ethos. No additives, antibiotic residues and GMO soya is in the feed.
*Our hen ranges are regularly rotated they get a change of scenery and plenty of variety to eat.
* Free range hens are fed a conventional feed that includes G.M.O ingredients. Organic feeds are up to 100% more expensive than conventional feeds.
Some interesting new legislation is explained in this link
If all this is too much get a few eggs and taste them. Even taste a ‘large scale’ organic egg and an Organic egg from us and hopefully you will really see a difference.
Our hens are outdoors every day. However, in other large-scale free range units, often less than 50% of the birds regularly go outside. They are also living in crowded conditions necessitating practices like de-beaking.
Organic approval is not granted lightly and is awarded to producers who consistently follow strict codes of Organic practices throughout their farm.
Devoy's Organic Eggs are approved under:
·I.O.F.G.A ( Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association)
·Department of Agriculture and Food
Organic farms are inspected at least once a year and sometimes unannounced. We currently have 400 hens.
The bottom line?
Producing food of the highest quality costs time
We should ask ourselves why should food be the cheap…( at all costs!) A lot of cheap food creates expensive health issues that are costly to solve. Recent studies demonstrated that going to work on an egg was good for our concentration, and keeps you feeling fuller for longer.
See here for a good article but for super quick breakfast poach some of our eggs in a little boiling water. No contraptions needed if super fresh.!

Does Organic really matter?
Do check this our yourself.
( see www.organic-trust.org or The soil association uk as a starting point.
You might want to bear in mind the following points;
1) Organically foods are higher in essential minerals such as magnesium, iron and chromium and anti-oxidants.
2) No chemicals fertilizers or pesticides are used.
3) No G.M.O feed or seeds are used .
4) Organic farming is part of an overall environmental approach.
5) Traceability. Talk to us and we can tell you where the food was grown and by whom. Visit the farm by appointment.
6) The more we all learn about conventional food production you will see that Organic foods not only taste good but leave you with a lasting ’ good taste in your mouth’ Devoys Organic foods therefore, nourish both heart and soul.
7) We keep our prices reasonable with families in mind. Organic food isn’t always more expensive and sometimes we have to ask can we afford not to eat at least some organic produce!
8) Pesticides. Reports appear regularly about pesticide cocktails that are found on many conventionally produced fruits and vegetables.
20 -30 poisonous sprays have been known to be found on conventional apples. Acceptable levels are measured with adults in mind not children. This link shows a simple chart of the dirty dozen…most worse affected /sprayed veg….etc
See also this link which tells us more about pesticides on foods.
A win win situation
On Devoys Organic farm everyone gets a job!
Apart from producing delicious eggs, our hens play a vital role in meticulously cleaning areas for us prior to cultivation.
They manure and gobble up slugs and bugs.
